Howl's Moving Castle, French toast and summer vibes ahoy!

A perfect Sunday with... Brittany N. Williams

Every week, one of my pals shares how they’d fill their perfect Sunday, sharing their favourite comfort reads, movies, food… anything that would make their weekend great. Today, it’s the turn of actress and debut YA author of That Self-Same Metal, Brittany N. Williams.

Brittany’s perfect Sunday… brunch

It would have to be fluffy French toast, some kind of fried potato, fresh strawberries, and a cold mimosa. Then a hot cup of black tea to drink on the walk home.

Brittany’s perfect Sunday… read

I’d want to keep things chill to rest my brain so I’d probably pick up something I’ve already read. It would either be Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones or The Broken Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin.

Brittany’s perfect Sunday… comic

I’m a big webcomic reader and my current favorite, I’m the Queen in This Life drops on Sunday nights. I’m reading that 100%.

Brittany’s perfect Sunday… movie

Again, I’d be pulling out an old fave so it’s gotta be Dance with Me with Vanessa Williams and Chayenne. I adore that movie.

Brittany’s perfect Sunday… TV binge

Easy, I’m watching all of Abbot Elementary with the captions on so I don’t miss a single joke.

Brittany’s perfect Sunday… album

I’m playing Black Radio by Robert Glasper. The Sunday vibes on that album are immaculate.

Brittany’s perfect Sunday… treat

My perfect Sunday treat would be a bushel of steamed blue crabs and some cold beer. That tastes like summers at home in Baltimore to me.

That Self-Same Metal by Brittany N. Williams is out now from Amulet Books.

Sixteen-year-old Joan Sands creates and maintains the stage blades for William Shakespeare’s acting company, the King’s Men, using her magical ability to control metal—a power gifted by the Orisha, Ogun.

Joan and her family have always been aware of the Fae’s presence within London society—subtle, peaceful, and marked by the faint glow that only those blessed by the Orisha can see. When England’s new king fails to uphold the pact between his realm and theirs, brutal attacks forewarn the approach of a malevolent presence. After Joan wounds a powerful Fae and saves the son of a cruel lord, she finds herself thrown into the middle of the approaching war between the human and Fae worlds.

Swashbuckling, romantic, and full of the sights and sounds of Shakespeare’s London, That Self-Same Metal delivers an unforgettable story—and a heroine unlike any other.

Brittany N. Williams is an actress, singer, writer, and nerd of many fandoms.
