A perfect Sunday with... Shannon Eric Denton
Endless joy, making monsters and trips to the National Parks
Every week, a top writer, artist, actor or creator reveals how they’d fill their perfect Sunday, sharing their favourite comfort reads, movies, food… anything that would make their weekend great.
Today, it's the turn of Monster Forge founder and creator, Shannon Eric Denton
Shannon's perfect Sunday… brunch
I like eating so this is probably the hardest question I’ve ever answered in an interview! I had fish and chips yesterday and was like “why don’t I eat this everyday” which I also do a lot with Thai food, Korean food, bratwurst…but if it’s what I normally do on a Sunday it’s probably eggs, avocado and tons of hatch green chile from New Mexico.
Shannon's perfect Sunday… read
Making Monsters by Howard Berger and Marshall Julius! Just picked it up at their signing here at the Academy Museum! It’s on a subject I love, but it also has so many friends and mentors in it. That’s a real treat.

Shannon's perfect Sunday… comic
Aside from pouring through old Creepy and Eerie issues, anything Hellboy. Being a writer/artist myself I find such joy and inspiration in what Mike (Mignola) does. It’s a great recharge on the fandom and my own creativity.

Shannon's perfect Sunday... movie
Escape from New York or Big Trouble in Little China. Both of those make up so much of my storytelling DNA and are just endless joy.

Shannon's perfect Sunday... TV binge
My Dallas Cowboys…when they win ;) And not sure if it is on Sunday, but I'm so looking forward to watching the upcoming Stranger Things with my family.

Shannon's perfect Sunday… podcast
Our new Monster Forge: The Horror Eternal by pal and EMMY winner Roy Burdine! (shameless plug)
Shannon's perfect Sunday… album
Oingo Boingo…any album. It brings a smile to my chillaxing.

Shannon's perfect Sunday… treat
We’re big campers. So trips up to the Sequoia/King’s Canyon and Yosemite National Parks are a personal favorite. Would love to get a trip together with a lot of comics folks who’ve never been and introduce them to this miracle.

“I was to be his mindless War-Monster.
I was to secure his rule over a world torn apart by magic.
But a wizard's favorite spell is backstabbing other wizards…”
When the vile necro-wizard Bezulus released his unholy magic to create an army of monstrous servants, his most ambitious creation was the War-Monster — a stitched-together titan forged from the bones, blood, and weapons of ancient warriors. Unbeknownst to Bezulus, an even more powerful wizard had just simultaneously cast his own spell, unleashing a monster plague upon the world!
Bezulus believed he could control his new monster.
He was wrong.
Now free, the War-Monster carves a path of destruction across a corrupted world, bent on one goal:
KILL EVERY WIZARD.
On a quest for vengeance, armed with the cursed Blood-Blade, and haunted by the spirits of the fallen heroes he’s built from, the War-Monster will face horrifying creatures, battle other enchanted beasts, and seek the one sorcerer responsible for the monster plague...
…and END HIM.
