A perfect Sunday with... special Christmas guest Chloe Scott

Every week, a top writer, artist or creator reveals how they’d fill their perfect Sunday, sharing their favourite comfort reads, movies, food… anything that would make their weekend great. But this week, it’s slightly different as it’s Christmas Eve, which means family time in the Scott household, so we have a special guest: my eldest daughter, Chloe, who is currently studying at the Bristol School of Acting.

This will be my last post of 2023, but the newsletter will be back in the new year, so I just want to say a big thank you for all your support over the last twelve months. Here’s to a Happy Christmas and a sparkling 2024!

Chloe’s perfect Sunday… brunch

I’m not a massive breakfast person, but if I had to choose, it would be savoury over sweet. If I could have any breakfast in the world, it would have to be an all-you-can-eat hotel breakfast buffet. What’s not to love about being able to pile your plate with as many sausages as you want?!

Chloe’s perfect Sunday… read

The Murder Most Unladylike series by Robin Stevens has been my favourite for years. The main characters, Daisy and Hazel, grow up over time, making me feel I was growing with them. I also find the structure of the books ideal, from the small chapters to even the font size. Perfect for a cosy Sunday read.

I’m also slowly starting to get through Star Wars: The High Republic (you may have heard of it?) and so far I am really enjoying it.1

I'm not far in at all. but it's good to finally understand what my dad is talking about!

Chloe’s perfect Sunday… comic

HEARTSTOPPER!! I love Heartstopper. It’s so very cute and cringy and I can't get enough. I am currently halfway through volume five (I got it on release day. It was a big deal!)

I read volume one just before the first series of the Netflix show hit while I was in Year 11 at school, so was the same age as Nick in the story. There was something comforting about reading characters my age dealing with issues relatable to my own life.

Chloe’s perfect Sunday… movie

Anything cringy, to be honest. I love the cringe SO much. Show me any cheesy rom-com, and I’ll rewatch it for years.

My favourite has to be the To All The Boys I Loved Before. IT'S SO GOOD! Definitely a feel-good movie.

I also love Howl’s Moving Castle. It’s so pretty and, I wish I could visit the lake that Sophie does in the film.

Chloe’s perfect Sunday… TV

I'm sure you’ve worked out by now that I am very indecisive and can't pick one favourite. Picking a single TV show is one of the hardest choices to make. I’m definitely a binger and rewatch my favourite shows over and over and over again.

Jane the Virgin is amazing, full of magical realism. So many ridiculous things happen, but there are always painfully real moments to balance everything out and make you care about the characters.

Another great show is BBC Ghosts. Sweet, funny and just so British! I grew up on Horrible Histories so it's great to still enjoy a show from the same actors and creators. I recommend it to everyone!

Other classics always on my screen are Friends, Brooklyn 99 and, of course, Heartstopper.

Chloe’s perfect Sunday… podcast

I enjoy podcasts a lot. Maybe it’s because I like talking?2 My headphones are constantly on3 with some sort of noise narrating my day.

My favourite is The Sesh from Mile Higher Media. It’s seriously feel-good and so chatty, making you feel as if you’re eavesdropping on a real friendship.

Chloe’s perfect Sunday… album

I love, love, love music. I even listen to it in my sleep! According to my Apple Music replay, I listened to 61,393 minutes of music this year so picking one album is hard! I have quite a few playlists and normally just click shuffle.

My top listen was Midnights by Taylor Swift because I love her so very much.

Another favourite this year has been Bewitched by Laufey. Her music is just so easy to listen to and I managed to convert my dad into a fan.

I also have to mention another of my all time faves: Happier than Ever by Billie Eilish. I don't have the words. She is just too cool.

I'll leave it with those three, otherwise you’ll be stuck here reading about my musical tastes all day. (Have I mentioned music is the best thing ever?)

Chloe’s perfect Sunday… treat

Now, I'm not sure if this means a food treat or a general treat, so I shall write about both. Lucky you! For a sweet treat, I’d go for pancakes. I know, technically, they are considered breakfast, but I love making batches at random points in the day. The best topping is lemon and sugar. I want to make pancakes now!4

For a general treat, I would spend hours playing the Sims. I would literally play that game all day if I could and sometimes do. Sorry, Dad.5 I have been playing for about seven years now and can't see myself stopping. I am utterly in love with the game.

I would also watch some content from my favourite Youtubers: Kara and Nate, James Marriott or LDshadowlady to name a few!

  1. Note from Dad: She hasn’t reached mine yet, so this might all change!

  2. This is true.

  3. Also true.

  4. Please do. I prefer Nutella and strawberries on top.

  5. As if this is news to me!
