Doctor Who, the Intergalactic Song Contest and regenerating your creativity

I’m on my way to town for my signing at Forbidden Planet Bristol, but I had to quickly jump on here to shout about today’s Doctor Who.
In short: DO NOT go on social media until you’ve watched The Intergalactic Song Contest. Avoid spoilers like the plague.
There’s a moment — you’ll know the one — where I literally shouted out loud… then immediately rewound to watch it again.
Juno Dawson’s script? Chef’s kiss.
The production values? Stunning.
Ncuti’s performance? Exquisite.
So much energy. So much emotion. So Doctor Who.
I never shy away from how much I adore this show and how much it’s shaped my life — but today there was something more. Watching an episode like this one — and then diving into the behind-the-scenes brilliance of Doctor Who: Unleashed — always gets my creative synapses firing.
That’s the best thing about art: it inspires more art. Creativity begets creativity.
If you’re a creator stuck in a rut, or just in need of a boot up the bum, go back to the things you love. Let them wash over you. Let them revitalise you. Regenerate you. Dive back into your favourite book, film, TV show, track, painting — whatever. Revel in how it was made. See the passion in the people who created the thing that gives you life… and then give life to something new yourself.
Let the show begin!
