Gwenpool #2 out today, plus: project lists, a new kickstarter and the work of my pals

Hello there!

How are you doing?

The last few weeks have been unexpectedly busy, meaning that a couple of things I had planned for the Cavletter, including Perfect Sunday, have had to wait, but normal service will resume shortly, I promise!

Work-wise, scripting has continued on the big 160-page graphic novel I first talked about in Feb. I'm delivering in chunks of 20 pages and will be hitting the midpoint today as I reach page 80. Our artist has completed the first 20 pages of inks and is due to deliver thumbnails for the next at any moment.

At the same time, I delivered issue 2 of my next three-issue Marvel mini, and the artist of that book has started work on pencils after conjuring up some killer character designs.

As always, I'm having to be vaguer than vague. Do I need to reintroduce project names? Hmm.

So... what if the graphic novel is Project Vermin and the Marvel mini is Project Sovereign?

Thankfully, I don't need to come up with a project name for Star Wars: Tales from the Nightlands, as that one has already been announced. All three artists – Soo Lee, Vincenzo Riccardi and Robert Hack – are either finished or a few pages from the end, meaning we'll soon be moving to colours and letters.

Meanwhile, I'm waiting for a kick-off meeting for another OGN, the contract for a novel that will see me returning to a fictional sandbox I've played in before, and word from my agent about a pitch we're putting out to a number of publishers.

I'm going to need more codenames, aren't I? And maybe a glossary so you/I can keep up! And that's before I get onto the stuff I've been working on with George Mann, including a new animated TV pitch (we have a meeting today with the animation house we've partnered with to produce concept art), a fantasy IP we're in the early stages of creating (including some wonderful character designs from an artist many of you will know from the High Republic) and the series bible we've been hired to develop for a live action TV show!

I told you it's been a lot – and I'm sure I've missed a few things!

Okay... codename list here! I'll update it as I go!

SIGN UP FOR THE I'LL KILL YOU NOW ANTHOLOGY

In my last newsletter, I mentioned a brand-new action horror anthology which includes a story from little ol' me!

Edited by Cullen Bunn, it's set to launch on Kickstarter at the end of the month, and the pre-launch page is now live.

It would be really helpful if you could pop over and sign up to be notified when it goes live. The more sign-ups we get, the more the Kickstarter algorithm will like us!

Thank you – you're awesome!

TRIALS OF THE JEDI

I couldn't let this newsletter pass without mentioning Trials of the Jedi by Charles Soule, the final novel in Star Wars: The High Republic, which was published yesterday.

It feels surreal that we've reached this point! Only two more comic issues and a short story to go before this initial story in the High Republic is finished!

In celebration of the end of this particular era, Star Wars published this cute little video yesterday:

THE MERCY MAKERS

And keeping with THR, check out The Mercy Makers, the new fantasy novel from my fellow High Republic creator, Tessa Gratton.

How beautiful is that cover? I have the UK edition on pre-order, but in the meantime, here's the blurb:

A talented heretic must decide between the pursuit of forbidden magic, or the ecstasy of forbidden love, in the start of a sweeping, romantic epic fantasy trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Tessa Gratton.

Can an empire trip and fall on a mere strand of silk?

Iriset is a prodigy and an outlaw. The daughter of a powerful criminal, she dons her alter ego Silk to create magical disguises for those in her father’s organization, but she longs to do more with her talent: to enhance what it means to be human by giving people wings, night-sight, and other abilities; to unlock the possibilities of gender and parenthood; to cure disease and even to end mortality itself.

Everything changes when her father is captured and sentenced to death. To save him, Iriset must infiltrate the palace and the empire’s fanatical ruling family. There, she realizes she has a chance—and an obligation—to bring down the entire corrupt system. She’ll have to entangle herself in the lives of the emperor and his sister, getting them to trust and even to love her. But love is a two-way street, and Iriset’s own heart holds the most mysterious and impenetrable magic of all.

THAT'S ALL FOR NOW, FOLKS

Right, all those projects won't manage themselves!

Until next time, look after yourself and each other!
