Introducing my Now Page
Keeping track of what I've been doing and what's on its way!

Hello there!
Here's a new little thing...
I've started a /NOW PAGE on my website. It’s an idea I’ve blatantly nicked from educator Martine Ellis who in turn was inspired by writer, Derek Sivers.
Like Martine, I'm going to use it to share what I’ve been doing over the last month and what I’m currently working on — well, the things I can talk about anyway.
*Shakes fists at those pesky NDAs!*
It'll largely covers professional stuff, but, like the Cavletter there will also be a little but of personal life sprinkled in there as well.
SO WHAT AM I DOING?
The summer has been an odd one. There have been some big moments, including the finale of Star Wars: The High Republic, the project that has consumed my life for the last eight years. Plus, there was my annual trip to San Diego Comic Con which was as full on as usual, but a great time nonetheless (not just because the house next to where we were staying had the best mailbox I’ve ever seen.)
But I feel like I’ve spent most of the last couple of months waiting for projects to get greenlit / kick off. Hopefully, with folk coming back from vacation, things are starting to move again.
Glancing ahead, my September looks like this:
- Finished Project: Vermin, the 160-page graphic novel I’ve been writing, adapted from a cracking book.
- Outlining my next book: an IP-based fantasy novel I’m calling Project: Avarice.
- Continuing on various TV and film pitches I’m developing with my fellow High Republic creator and pal, George Mann.
- Visiting Germany for Noris Force Con.
- If I have time, starting work on a novelette that has just been commissioned featuring a classic pulp character.
Oh, and I’ll be starting a new term of lino printing after the summer break. Can’t wait to get stuck back in!
WHAT HAVE I GOT COMING OUT IN SEPTEMBER?
September will see the launch of this year’s Star Wars Halloween mini-series, Tales From The Nightlands, scripted by me, with art in issue one by the fantastic Soo Lee.
WHAT I'VE BEEN WATCHING
- The latest series of Here We Go has been making me hoot. Perfect British farce / cringe — and anything with Alison Steadman is a must watch.
- I’ve been binging both Interview with the Vampire (sublime) and Hacks (an absolute joy from beginning to end.)
- I went to a really fun double bill of Solomon Kane and the new Red Sonja film that made me realise how much I miss 1980s fantasy movies. (I mean, I regularly realise this, so it’s not exactly an epiphany.)
WHAT I’VE BEEN READING
Reading for pleasure has been slower recently as I've been up to my neck in research, but highlights have included:
WHAT I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO
Nothing new really other than my usual selection of podcasts: The Rest is Entertainment, Reading Glasses, The Archers (always my not-so-guilty pleasure) and The News Agents.
Other highlights have been the audiobook of The Emperor’s Blades by Brian Staveley, read by Simon Vance and Doctor Who: Susan’s War — Grandfather Time from Big Finish.
So, that’s what I’ve been up to / am looking forward to for the next month. I’m going to try to update the /Now page at the end of every month, archiving them here on my newsletter too!
Expect more from me later this week. Now that autumn is upon us I'm going to be ramping up my blog / newsletter again – including the return of Perfect Sunday!
