Jaxxon’s back, baby!

Newsflash: Announcing my new Star Wars graphic novel

Proof that you can’t keep a good bunny down, the official Star Wars website has just announced a new graphic novel by yours truly, starring everyone’s favourite green-furred smuggler, Jaxxon!

Smugglers and Scoundrels: The Race for Jabba’s Bounty kicks off a new range of all-ages original graphic novels from Mad Cave Studios’ Papercutz line — and as you can see from the cover, Jaxxon isn’t charging into the adventure alone alone. This time he’s up against Han Solo, Chewbacca and a host of bounty hunters, both old and new!

I’m thrilled to be collaborating with the fantastic Christian Colbert — an absolute joy to work with and, like me, a lifelong Star Wars fan.

Here’s the official blurb:

Notorious crime boss Jabba the Hutt has lost a precious family heirloom… and he knows just the scoundrels who can help him get it back!

Race to the finish line with some of the galaxy’s most infamous rascals and see who will get their hands on the treasure first! Will it be Han Solo and Chewbacca aboard the trusty Millennium Falcon? Or Han’s old rival, everyone’s favorite fast-talking Lepi, Jaxxon T. Tumperakki, and his lucky Rabbit’s Foot? Or will it be Boba Fett, Greedo, or another competitor who takes the crown?

Find out in this rip-roaring ride full of risky maneuvers, double-crosses, and questionable morals as smugglers and scoundrels from across the galaxy race to recover Jabba’s prize!

The graphic novel hits September 15th this year, with a second Papercutz graphic novel by Greg Pak and Brent Schoonover hitting in October — The Legend of Beggar’s Canyon.

Bouncing back to the beginning

Long-term readers will know just how much Jaxxon means to me. As I’m quoted in the starwars.com article, Jax was there in my very first encounter with a galaxy far, far away in issue 16 of Star Wars Weekly.

I met the long-eared Lepi before I ever met Luke Skywalker — and I fell in love with the dope instantly, rereading those issues over and over. So much so, in fact, that I was bitterly disappointed when he failed to hop into The Empire Strikes Back!

Fast forward forty years and I was given the chance to bring Jaxxon back into canon in the 2018 Star Wars Adventures Annual. Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to write new Jaxxon stories pretty much every year. He’s teamed up with Luke, Leia, and Lando, travelled to Vader’s Castle on Mustafar, and even faced the Dark Lord of the Sith himself in a special short story when I finally inserted him into the events of Empire!

Along the way, we’ve had action figures, a statue, Jax has been immortalised by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and appeared in the latest LEGO Rebuild the Galaxy special.

And here he is back again, in a story that chronicles the beginnings of his rivalry with Han! Not bad for a fast-talking fuzzy scoundrel who refuses to stay down!

Keep an eye out for more information about both this and The Legend of Beggar’s Canyon graphic novel - coming soon!
