Unleash the Party Monster! I've hit a milestone in my WIP!

As I've discussed recently, I hit a little snag while writing my current novel, codenamed Project Avarice – a pesky operation that meant I had to down tools for a bit. An extension agreed with my editor, I got back to work, first editing what I'd already written before a spanner was thrown into the works, and then chugging on from where I'd left off.

Hitting the new deadline is going to be tough, but by hook or by crook, I'll manage it. I've gradually been picking up the pace this week – 3,400 words on Monday, 3,902 on Tuesday, and 4,549 today. I'll need to get back to 5,000 a day if I'm going to make it – and then they'll need a LOT of editing before I submit the manuscript – but I'm heading in the right direction.

Plus, I reached a milestone today that I wanted to share with you, if only to mark it before trying to write some more.

I hit 40,000 words half an hour ago. 40,618 to be precise.

Only 59,382 to go!

I hope you'll humour me as I make these little posts every 10,000 words, not as a brag, but as a reminder that I'm making progress. The beginning of 2026 has been doing its best to make the dumpster fire of 2025 look like a walk in the park, but I'm determined to keep going.

I may even have a celebratory biscuit.
