STAR WARS – THE JAWS OF JAKKU OUT TODAY!

Hello, there!

It's a new book day... well, an audiobook to be precise, released as part of the Audible Originals Star Wars line.

Star Wars - The Jaws of Jakku sees me returning to write Rey on her childhood homeworld. There, the young Jedi-in-training, Finn, and BB-8 encounter a young girl – the young narrator of our story – and head beneath the dunes to find a lost Imperial weapon.

I always enjoy writing Rey, and Jaws of Jakku – like my stories featuring her for Star Wars Adventures before it – gives me a chance to write the side of Rey that we don't always see: a young girl struggling with both her training and the legacy she's adopted, walking in the footsteps of legends such as Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa.

And, of course, I jumped at the chance to write Leia again. Who wouldn't? She's an icon.

I had a look through my notes to see if there was any behind-the-scenes trivia I could share, but this one was pretty plain sailing from beginning to end, although there was quite a lot of back and forth about whether we should do the story in first-person, which I'm glad we did.

It did have a couple of titles along the way, first commissioned as Return to Jakku before being submitted as Terror on Jakku. The title we went with was suggested during the first round of edits.

Star Wars: The Jaws of Jakku, featuring a wonderful cover by Jake Bartok is read by the incredible Helen Sadler and is exclusively available now from Audible.

SCREAM! THE SPECIALS 1985 - 2024

Now, this was a lovely surprise. Back in 2020, I was privileged to write a coda of sorts to The Dracula File, a strip that ran in the short-lived British horror comic, Scream.

It was special for a couple of reasons. First up, I loved Scream when I was a kid, and The Dracula File was the first strip I turned to every issue. In many ways, it influenced my supernatural spy series Shadow Service, combining monsters and secret agents, in this case the KBG and MI5, going up against the prince of darkness.

It also introduced me to artist Vincenzo Riccardo, who absolutely blew me away – so much, in fact, that I later recommended him for Star Wars: Tales from the Death Star. We've worked together on numerous occasions since, and he produced a memorable variant cover for my creator-owned Slasher-fest, Night of the Slashers.

Now, our Dracula File story has been collected with the other Scream! specials in this rather lovely collection.

What a joy to have this on my shelves in time for Halloween. You can be sure I'll be diving back in to revisit the other stories by creators such as Dave Gibbons, Geoff Senior, Guy Adams, Alec Worley, Alex Paknadel and more!

Oh, and as a little treat for you, my subscribers, here's a test piece that Vin created while preparing to draw the pages.

Please forgive today's post being a bit salesy. I mean, every sale helps, obviously, but I'm also thick with a cold today, so my head feels like it's full of soggy wool.

Oh, the glamour of being a writer! Doing promotion while mainlining Lemsip!

Some more chatty posts are on the way, but until then, look after yourself and each other!
