Taking a pause
An unexpected start to 2026 and a change in pace for the months ahead
Hello there!
Wow. The beginning of 2026... well, it was a lot.
The work George and I were doing on Strange Matter blew up in all the right ways. I wrote a full mini-series – which is going to be announced over the next week or so, I believe – and hammered out 70,000 words of Project: Avarice to hit my deadline.
Something else happened that threw a spanner in the works as well, something I haven't talked much about.
At the end of last year, I had a procedure to remove a lesion from my foot. It seemed simple enough, until they discovered it was a rare tumour. I had more surgery in January to make sure it was all gone, and I'm very pleased to say that I've now been given the all-clear. However, recovery didn't go exactly to plan, and there were a few complications along the way.

Fast forward to now, and everything is healed. I'm in the process of getting myself back up to strength and catching up on a few projects that had to be paused while I recovered.
It does mean that the next couple of months are going to be particularly hectic, so I've had to take a long look at my commitments, particularly if I'm going to be kind to myself while getting the work done.
With all this in mind, I've decided to pull back on the regular weekly posts on this newsletter, at least in the short term. I'm not abandoning you – far from it – but neither do I want to rush or skimp on what I'm sending you.
So, between now and September, I'm going to move to a monthly newsletter that will bring you up to date with everything that's going on with me and my work. There may be the odd announcement along the way, but I'm going to use the time to get some exciting new projects underway, relaunching the Cavletter proper in late summer.
As always, I cannot begin to thank you for your support. It means the world. I'm not going anywhere, and you can always reply to my posts or catch me on Bluesky and Instagram.
I'll see you on May 1st for my first monthly round-up.
Until then, look after yourself and each other.
