Updating my Now page for November
Keeping track of what I've been doing and what's on its way!
A couple of months ago, I started a /NOW PAGE, an idea I discovered via educator Martine Ellis and invented by writer Derek Sivers.
I use it to share what I'm up to, and have just updated the text on my website so, as promised, thought I'd share it with you, my loyal subscribers.
SO WHAT AM I DOING?
October saw me re-jigging my work schedule a bit. I was supposed to start Project: Avarice, my next yet-to-be-announced novel, but then another job came in – a graphic novel I'm calling Project: Chase. Initially, I'd been told I would be writing it in August, but, as is the way of things, there had been a number of delays lining everything up. Now, it was full systems go – with a pretty urgent deadline.
Thankfully, I'd built in some wiggle room for Project: Avarice, so could shift everything around and dive into the script. I finished the first draft today and, after tidying it up, will get it in next week. Then, I'll be diving into the novel on November 18th! Phew!
Beyond plate-spinning, I submitted the manuscript for my upcoming Solomon Kane story and continued working with George on our TV pitches, picking up a creative consultancy gig for the two of us as well.
There were also a couple of conventions, both on the same weekend! October 25th saw me at Bristolcon, where I took part in a live worldbuilding panel where we came up with an entirely new planet on the fly! I kinda wish we'd copyrighted it there and then as I really want to write stories in it!
The following day, I hotfooted it up to London for MCM Comic Con, where I joined fellow Star Wars scribes Adam Christopher (go grab his new Darth Vader novel) and George. We waxed lyrical about Revenge of the Sith on a panel moderated by the wonderful Sarah Miles before taking part in a signing where a contingent of High Republic Jedi greeted us – including none other than the Eye of the Storm, himself!

INTERVIEWS
I chatted to Cryptid Creator Corner about Iron and Frost as well as Doctor Who, being a monster kid, how I approach work on large franchises and the importance of finding a hobby completely unrelated to your creative work.
You can watch it here or below:
AIPT interviewed me as part of their X-Men Monday series, giving me another chance to talk Iron & Frost, plus the difference between writing Star Wars and Marvel, and my first introduction to the X-Men. You can read it here!

WHAT HAVE I GOT COMING OUT IN NOVEMBER?
I have two comic books this month:
- Issue two of Iron & Frost from Marvel on November 12th.
- Issue three of Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands featuring Rey, Finn, BB-8, Leia, Chewie and the droids – out November 19th.

WHAT I'VE BEEN WATCHING
- The Blu-ray of Doctor Who Series 13 (AKA the best season of Doctor Who ever) has arrived, and I'm currently rationing myself, working through the episodes and extras at lunchtimes. First up was the wonderful Terror of the Zygons, a long-time favourite, and its associated special features, some of which come from previous DVDs, while others are brand new.

- Talking of Blu-rays, the new 4k edition of Hammer's Curse of Frankenstein is an absolute joy. The creature has never looked so good!
- We've recently discovered The Chelsea Detective on U and have been loving watching Adrian Scarborough and team solving London-based murders alongside The Morning Show, Alien Earth and Only Murders in the Building.
WHAT I’VE BEEN READING
The Morrigan, Kim Curran's retelling of Irish myth was a delight, as was Hear Him Calling, a spooky ghost story by Carly Reagon that I've been saving for the dark half of the year.
I also tore through the first two DCI Jack Logan mysteries by my pal, JD Kirk, and instantly wondered why I've waited so long. A Litter of Bones was a great introduction to the series, but Thicker Than Water has ritual killings around Loch Ness, so wins in my book!
Now, I'm reading another book I've been saving for Halloween week – Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by the great Grady Hendrix.
Just look at those sprayed edges!

WHAT'S BEEN IN MY EARS
I've been dipping in and out of Ben Elton's autobiography What Have I Done?, and am particularly looking forward to the sections on The Young Ones and Blackadder.
Music-wise, I've also been loving The Divine Comedy's melancholy new album, Rainy Sunday Afternoon. We caught the final gig of their recent tour at the Bristol Beacon, which was just brilliant.

ALL THAT AND MORE
I managed to finish my latest lino print, which was a little challenging at points, but worth it in the end.

Of course, my artistic skills are nothing compared to my youngest daughter's, who wowed me with her recent prosthetic project at college — perfect for spooky season!

That's all for now, although don't forget to check out this month on the High Republic calendar!
Until next time, look after yourself and each other!
Speak soon!
