What do you want from the Cavletter in 2026?
I’m looking ahead and would love your input!
Hello there,
We’re edging toward the end of the year – that strange period where the calendar insists we should be slowing down, while deadlines laugh merrily in our faces – and I’ve started thinking about what the Cavletter should look like in 2026, maybe even expanding what I can offer.
This newsletter has never just been one thing. Some weeks it’s me talking about writing – the victories, the stumbles, even the odd moments of clarity! Other weeks it’s peeks behind the curtain: worldbuilding notes, how a comic script comes together, or whatever is currently giving me a headache in my writing life.
Then there are the Monster Mechas updates, the musings on creativity and impostor syndrome, productivity experiments, book recommendations, and the occasional diversion into lino printing or folklore because, well, I love them.
And of course, there will always be the occasional plug for whatever book, comic or audio I have out in the wild – it’s part of the gig! But hopefully always in a way that feels natural and genuinely useful.
But the Cavletter only works because you’re here reading it. So before I make any plans for next year, I wanted to ask a simple question:
What would you like to see more of in 2026?
A few options to get you thinking:
- Behind-the-scenes info – process notes, script breakdowns, development stories from whatever sandpit I’m playing in that month.
- Craft talk – structure, character, dialogue and worldbuilding. How to get yourself writing!
- Work-in-progress glimpses – novel updates, comic teases, and the odd scrap from my notebooks.
- Hobbies and interests – lino printing misadventures, folklore and toys – basically anything that keeps me sane between drafts.
- Book life – what I'm reading (and listening to), plus visits to book shops and events.
- Productivity tips and tricks – what’s helping, what’s not, and how I’m attempting to build a healthier creative rhythm.
- Stationery and pen geekery – notebooks, journals, pens and everything else I geek out about.
- A creative life – comics, publishing, storytelling across mediums – the practicalities of being a freelance writer.
- Regular Q&As – you ask, I answer (within reason and NDAs).
- Guest spots and interviews – conversations with other creators I admire.
And what about less of?
If there’s something you tend to skip past, or a topic you feel is already well-covered, that’s just as useful to know. No hard feelings, I promise.
One more thing: format
Would you prefer:
• shorter notes sent more often?
• longer monthly essays?
• a mix depending on the week and what I’m working on?
• themed mini-series (e.g., process, worldbuilding, imposter syndrome, Monster Mechas and so on)?
Writing The Cavletter has become one of my favourite parts of the week – a space to think out loud, share what I’m learning, and talk about the worlds I’m building. But I also want it to be of value to you. Shaping the 2026 edition with your input feels like the right next step.
You can drop your thoughts in the comments, or reply directly if that’s easier — I'll read everything.
Thank you!
