New Interview: Talking Gwenpool, Star Wars, fandom and more with Gaming Trend
I had a brilliant time chatting to Adam Moreno at Gaming Trend earlier this week. We discussed Gwenpool, Star Wars: The High Republic, fandom and why I think writers have to be as transparent as possible. Watch it below and let me know what you think of the chat! SIGN

Fan Art Friday: Lights, Camera, Action figures...
Plus: Gwenpool #4’s awesome variant cover artist and a quick AMA!

Over the last week, I've received a few questions about Gwenpool via my AMA form. Let's run through them!

READY FOR ACTION

Ben says:

I know you collect action figures. Do you get a figure of every character you're writing, such as Gwenpool and Iron Man?

Hi Ben. Yes, I do. In fact, it's one of the first things I do when start a new project, popping the figure under my screen as I dive into plotting.

With Iron Man, I already had a Silver Centurion figure (my favourite armour design), but I wanted something a little more red and gold for this job, so this fella was added to my collection.

As for Gwenpool, I already had Gwen on my shelves, so she just got promoted to the desk — and hasn't left yet. Seeing her bobbing away when I type just makes me smile!

REFLECTING ON PAST WORK

Guinevere says:

Making Gwenpool not act like herself for almost the entirety of the miniseries is a risky decision from a writing perspective because the payoff has to really be worth it in order to justify doing that. What made you decide to go that direction compared to telling a story where she’s herself and truly "Gwenpool" the whole way through? With hindsight, would you have done it any differently?

Thanks for your question, Guinevere. It’s true this story puts our girl through some wild circumstances, and part of the fun is seeing how she reacts. Hopefully, the finale will reveal how everything comes together.

As for hindsight, every project teaches you something new, highlighting things you could do differently next time. But unless you can shift reality like Gwen, the important thing is to take those lessons forward rather than second-guess the story you’ve told.

And perspectives also change over time. Ask me the same question in five, ten or fifteen years and I’ll probably have a different answer. Recently, I revisited the project that launched this side of my career 25 years ago and yup, there are definitely things I’ll change. Right now, this current series is too fresh for me to fully analyse it like that. All I know, is that I’m incredibly proud of all the hard work the team put into this book. It was a challenging book in a lot of ways, but a great experience.

GWEN'S LIFE

Vivi asks three questions:

1) What comics do you think Gwenpool would be reading right now if she weren’t living her most dramatic life in the Marvel world?

2) What’s one word you associate with her?

3) In Love Unlimited, she started taking college classes. Do you think she is still continuing that?

Thank you for writing Gwen! She is my favourite!

I'm glad to hear that you love Gwen, Vivi. Hopefully you're enjoying the latest series.

Here are your answers:

1) Well, we know she never usually reads Deadpool! There's also every chance she would devour her own latest run… and then roast it mercilessly on Reddit!

Sticking with the House of Ideas, I reckon she'd be all over what's happening over on the Ultimate line, especially with Miles in such peril.

Whether she reads the Distinguished Competition is open to interpretation, but I'd be curious to see what she thinks about the Absolute line. She knows all the rules of how comics and characters work, so I think she'll get a kick out of the swings they're making with those books.

Whatever she reads, I think she'd spend a lot of her time dissecting everything and coming up with wild theories, getting helplessly hooked on the drama along the way. After all, it's what every one of us does as a fan… and Gwen's the biggest fan of all!

2) Joy!

3) I hope so. As for what they are, that's an interesting thought. Advanced Land-Shark care? Nah, she doesn't need that – she knows how to handle Jeff. I think she'd get a kick out of media studies or creative writing. She is all about stories, after all. In fact, her understanding of narrative had a lot to do with another idea I’d pitched in response to the Gwenpool ’25 brief. We ended up taking the story in a different direction, but that seed of an idea is still rattling around in the back of my head.

What about the rest of you, Gwenpool fans? What do you think she'd be reading or taking at college?
